Each year two or more growers participate in on-farm Dark Tobacco Variety trials in Cheatham County. The test plots are coordinated through UK-UT Dark Tobacco Specialist, Dr. Andy Bailey. Data collected from these studies are compiled and posted on the University of Kentucky Dark Tobacco Website for growers to utilize in making decisions on the right variety for their particular needs. Data is also shared at producer meetings throughout the year in Tennessee and Kentucky, as well as with tobacco industry representatives.
